Australian Modern
Author: Hanna Lewi, Phillip Goad
IBSN: 9781760760151

From the Sydney Opera House and the National Gallery of Victoria to sought-after homes across the country, modernism is a pervasive presence in Australia. Visionaries like Robin Boyd, Harry Seidler, and Walter Burley Griffin led the charge, reimagining everything from large-scale infrastructure projects to public health and education institutions, as well as new cultural, commercial, and leisure centers.

Australia Modern vividly captures this architectural legacy by surveying 100 significant modern sites, richly illustrated with archival images and newly commissioned photographs. Contextual essays by leading voices in architecture and conservation explore modernism’s influence on every facet of Australian life and the ongoing challenges of preservation. The book showcases projects from the iconic and urban to the everyday, regional, and lesser known, fostering an appreciation for the modern architects and buildings that will become tomorrow’s heritage.
